It is important that all sections be free of moisture prior to finishing the sections. Wood doors should not be finished under very humid conditions.

Finishing Instructions

1. Clean all door surfaces with a stiff bristle brush to remove surface dirt and loose fibers.

2. Prime the door sections on all sides. Use a quality oil or latex based exterior primer, or Sikkens ® CETOL 1. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations on temperature and drying time. If you are painting a redwood or cedar door, the primer should contain a tannen blocker.

3. Within seven days of receipt of doors or installation, finish paint all section surfaces using a quality oil or latex based exterior paint. We recommend TWO coats of Sikkens ®  CETOL
23. The finish coat base should be the same as the primer coat base. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations on temperature and drying time. Application of a second top coat is recommended.

4. Any exposed beaded or v-groove openings that could collect water must be sealed with a high quality polyurethane caulking material after the finish is applied.

Note: Using a primer on wood doors that does not contain a tannen blocker could result in discoloration of the door after painting .
